Earlier testing had confirmed the potentially life-threatening virus in three samples from Norton.
The virus is transmitted from infected birds to mosquitoes and potentially to people.
The Barberton-Norton Mosquito Abatement District will spray near the Johnson Road Baptist Church in Norton and at Barberton's Anna Dean Park for the next five to seven nights, Director Joseph Harrison said Friday.
The district will also increase applying a pesticide to kill mosquito larvae and boost trapping efforts in both areas, he said.
The Summit County Health Department will check its records to determine whether additional spraying is needed in the affected areas, said Bob Hasenyager, director of environmental health.
The mosquitoes that tested positive for the virus were trapped three weeks ago, and officials must determine how much spraying and killing of mosquito larvae have been done in those areas since the mosquitoes were collected, he said.
Summit County has sent117,000 mosquitoes to Columbus this year for testing, more than the 65,000 that were tested in 2007, Hasenyager said.
There have been no human cases of West Nile virus in Summit County this year, said Dr. Marguerite Erme of the Akron Health Department.
To date, there have been two human cases in Ohio in 2008: one in Lorain County and one in Ottawa County.
Twelve Ohio counties have reported the West Nile virus. In Northeast Ohio, that includes Summit, Stark, Cuyahoga, Lake and Lorain counties. It has been found in one bird and one mosquito sample in Stark County.
