"Health insurers rely on IT to increase their competitiveness and
provide better service to customers," said Eric Paternoster, head of
Insurance, Healthcare and Life sciences at Infosys Technologies. "Through
AHIP's program, IT professionals deepen their business knowledge and earn a
badge of industry recognition. This increases our ability to help clients
achieve IT-business alignment successfully."
The Business Process Advisor (BPA) certificate program is the newest of
12 designations offered by AHIP's Center for Insurance Education and
Professional Development. This six-course program is specifically designed
for companies that provide customer solutions to local and international
clients, offer back office support, or work with overseas support services.
To complete the BPA designation, students are required to take courses
in customer service, the fundamentals of health insurance, and care
management. In addition, they can choose electives on topics such as HIPAA,
medical management, and call centers.
"It's a win-win for all parties involved," said Karen Ignagni,
President and CEO of AHIP. "With a greater understanding of how our
industry works, companies such as Infosys are able to develop innovative
solutions to improve business operations for our members."
Infosys provides an array of consulting, IT and BPO services to clients
around the world. The company focuses on providing business transformation
solutions and services for health plans. Over 1,000 Infosys professionals
are currently enrolled in the BPA designation program and Infosys expects
to scale up the program to include an additional 1,000 employees by the end
of 2007.
