Today's Health Chat has several new nuggets of information on topics like asthma, infertility, nutrition, and cancer drugs.

A new study says an aspirin a day may have a new benefit. Researchers say 22% of men who take an aspirin daily to prevent heart disease also reduce their risk of asthma.

According to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, 5,000 Americans die each year because of asthma. Asthma cases have been on the rise over recent years, as well.

The study says that rise coincides with a reduction in aspirin use, mainly because people are switching pain relievers. Parents also avoid giving their children aspirin to prevent health problems. That's what led the study's authors to investigate whether there was a link.

Scientists in Scotland have produced genetically-engineered chickens that produce cancer drugs. They say the chickens can produce drugs in the whites of their eggs.

Researchers say the egg whites from these chickens contain an antibody with potential for treating malignant melanoma.

This is the same institute that cloned Dolly the sheep several years ago.

Another new study suggests banning trans-fat may be especially important to women. Harvard nutrition researchers say trans-fat can increase a woman's risk of infertility.

In their study, they found women with ovulation-related fertility problems tend to eat more trans-fats than fertile women. In fact, the study says consuming just two percent of your total calories from trans-fats, instead of healthier mono-unsaturated fats, can double the risk of infertility.

And researchers say consuming it instead of carbohydrates can result in an up to 73 percent greater risk.
